Daniel Giraud Elliot（1835-1915）为19世纪重要科学家之一，年轻时钻研于鸟类学及标本收藏，曾深入欧洲及亚洲进行相关研究。Elliot为纽约美国自然历史博物馆（American Museum of Natural History in New York）创办人，与美国鸟类学家协会（American Ornithologists’ Union）创办人之一。Elliot以出版华丽的鸟类及哺乳类对开本著称，除了撰写文字内容外，并自行重金聘请著名艺术家绘图。
